Dr. (H.C) Supantono, M.A.

Artist, Curator, and International Peace Ambassador

Born in Yogyakarta on April 18, 1964, Dr. (H.C) Supantono, M.A. is an Indonesian visual artist and curator of international renown, with a distinguished career spanning more than three decades. He began his formal art education at SSRI/SMSR Yogyakarta and earned his Master of Arts degree from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Throughout his artistic development, he had the privilege of learning directly from Indonesian masters such as Affandi and Supono PR, as well as the eminent Japanese painter, Prof. Dr. Hiroshi Fujita. Since 1994, Supantono has held over 20 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 200 group exhibitions across the globe, including in Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, Brazil, Venezuela, Romania, and the United States (New York), and others. His works are celebrated for their rich symbolism and poetic abstraction, often exploring themes of peace, spiritual harmony, nature, and human existence.

Beyond his studio practice, Supantono is the founder of United Master Artist International (UMAI), a global art initiative based in Indonesia that fosters cross-cultural collaboration and promotes the values of tolerance, environmental stewardship, and humanity through art. In recognition of his contributions to the arts and global peace, Supantono has received numerous prestigious international honors, including multiple Honorary Doctorates, the title of World Icon for Peace and Humanity, an Honorary Professorship in Human Rights, and awards from cultural and peace organizations in more than 15 countries. Guided by his life motto “Long Life Education”, Supantono continues to create, learn, and inspire younger generations to work with integrity, vision, and a deep cultural consciousness.
