Prof. Dr. I Nengah Wirakesuma, Indonesia

Prof. Dr. Drs. I Nengah Wirakesuma, M.Sn. was born in Wongaya Gde on February 21, 1964. He earned his Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta. Currently, he serves as a lecturer at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Bali and resides in Denpasar. Since 2019, he has been actively creating and exhibiting his works in various prestigious galleries, including ARMA Ubud, Monkey Forest Ubud, Subak Museum Tabanan, Sinyo Gallery, Neka Museum, Artsiafrika Bandung, and Teh Villa Gallery Surabaya. He has also participated in international exhibitions, such as the Sketch & Drawing Virtual Exhibition (2024). In 2025, his artwork was showcased in the Masterpiece 25 Exhibition at Bellevue Art Space, Depok, affirming his artistic presence both nationally and internationally.

Artwork Description:

Facial Lines 1 embodies an aesthetic reflection of the microcosm and macrocosm, a theme that often occupies my contemplative mind. Warm coffee-toned hues serve as the foundation of the palette, poured onto the canvas, layered, and scratched repeatedly with brushes. The creative process combines spontaneous strokes with scraping techniques using a palette knife, along with absorbing pigments through cloth. Each layer reveals new dynamics, uniting color, line, space, and texture into a harmonious composition. This work invites the viewer into a meditative realm, where the boundaries between the external universe and the inner self blur and intertwine.
